Is there a way to choose to insert the default way?

Glad to hear that you are enjoying the plugin. I’m sorry to disappoint you but there isn’t an automatic / toggle method to choose whether a PDF is embedded or added using the WP default link method; however, we do have a snippet that you can use to deactivate the automatic insertion of the shortcode: https://wp-pdf.com/kb/stop-the-pdf-embedder-shortcode-being-inserted-into-posts-automatically/

Please add an option to enable/disable from the tiny MCE visual editor. Perhaps the default is to not add the embedder shortcode, but add a button to the TinyMCE to insert an attachment with the shortcode – or vice-versa.

The default method is for the plugin to automatically add the shortcode to the page or post content when you select a PDF from your Media Gallery. This can be disabled using a PHP snippet.
