• My blog site is fine, I want to change the color of the WordPress WP admin area where I write my blog posts. It is white and it’s too bright while creating blog posts (monitor brightness setting is 0). Is there a color picker for the blog/wp-admin screen? Hope this makes sense.

  • There are only two available by default… but I’m sure there are plugins which offer more colors. I offer a premium one if you can’t find a free one.

Anyways.. go to your user profile.. and it’s the second option from the top of the page. “Admin Color Scheme”.

    Hi Josh,

I’m trying to locate my user profile, I’m looking in the Dashboard now, is that the right area?

Yeah. From the left admin menu.. click “Users” -> “Your Profile”.

Ok, found it- I have the grey radio button selected, but it only seems to affect the general theme, such as the sidebar trim, etc. The main area is still white. So bright in a dark room.

Lol… well, you could always reduce the brightness of your monitor.

I’m not sure that any of the color palettes available in the addons will change the background white color.

You can adjust it from a child theme using a custom function and a little css.

Monitor brightness is at 0. I’m useless at code, I just wanted to see if WordPress folks had a setting for background color of the Admin area. Put it on the menu for 3.5.1!

    Hahaha.. right!!

Hmmm.. Are you using a child theme?

I’m such a child at this that I don’t even know what a child theme is. I just wear my sunglasses while I type blog posts. I look cool doing it, but wish I could just have a dark grey background instead of 255 bright blinding white.

Hmmm.. interesting. Well.. as long as you have a Pina Coloda or a Rum and Pineapple in your hand… listening to the sound of the ocean roars… then it sounds like you have it ALL figured out to me!

Seriously… it would require a child theme. Or, you can edit your core WP file… but you would have to do it EVERY time they release an update.. since the change would be overwritten.

However, it’s a fairly easy change… if you know how to use FTP or your hosts CPanel to access your webfiles.

    Your call.

Bartender, bring me another Pina Colada.

But I do appreciate the help Josh. I can’t believe someone hasn’t asked for this years ago. Every program I use has the option to change/darken the screen color. I have to take breaks so I don’t get a tan just writing a blog. But thanks man.

    No worries.

If you ever feel like tackling it.. come ‘on back, and we’ll knock it out.

    Take care!
