Is there a standard/best practice way to automatically resize image uploads?

  • If a form contains a file attachment control intended to allow the user to upload an image, is there a reasonable way for not super tech savvy WP developers to specify either the maximum file size or maximum dimensions, and have the uploaded file rescaled on the server to match those criteria (as opposed to simply failing validation, which makes some end users MIGHTILY confused and not knowing how to fix the problem)?
