is there a filter or hook could I use to customize dark mode button in wp 5.7?

    I’m trying to customize the dark mode button with font awesome icon in a child theme but I haven’t figure out how to add a CSS class with the fas-fa… is there a hook or filter that I could use in the functions file to achieve my goal?
    Any tut or guidance would be of great help thanks

    Thank you very much Oliver. Wow! it work’s very well. I was trying to extend the php class Twenty_Twenty_One_Dark_Mode in order to hide the text and add a tooltip css style similar to the white house website ??
    I’m going to look into your plugin as well.

    Awesome! Would like to see the site when it’s live to see what icon etc you used?
