Is there a difference between wordpress online and client versions?

Hello,

I had created a blog on wordpress.com site.
Recently I bought a hosting plan with wordpress included. The options in the dashboard are very less compared to the one I get on the wordpress.com blog?’
Is there a difference between both versions? I have run an update and it shows that I have all the necessary updates.
