I’ve installed WP Statistics on the WP/BuddyPress site I manage. It’s great BUT I don’t want to overload the dashboard of my members with all your statistics. I want to restrict the ability to see the statistics to Administrators only.

In Roles and Permissions I’ve set Mimimum Role to View Statistics to manage_options, which should do what I want. It doesn’t. Authors (who cannot manage_options) are still being shown all the statistic widgets.

Is Roles and Permissions broken? Or am I just misunderstanding what I need to do? Can you advise me please.

    Thanks,
    John

    Hi @thesupercargo,

After reviewing the “Roles & Permissions” settings, I can confirm that everything appears to be working as expected.

It’s possible that the “Author” role on your website may have been granted the “manage_options” capability.

To help us further investigate the issue, could you please:

    • Install a plugin like Members – Membership & User Role Editor Plugin and check the capabilities assigned to the “Author” role?
    • Confirm whether the Statistics is accessible to other roles, such as “Subscriber” or “Editor”?
    • Enable WP Debug and share any related logged errors with us?

    Thank you for your cooperation!

    Regards,
    Matthew

    Hi @mhdizmni

Thanks for your reply. I tried out the Members plugin. Everything seems to be OK.

Maybe I’m not explaining myself clearly? The problem is the mass of widgets populating the dashboard for everyone regardless of their role: Traffic Overview, Browser Usage, Daily Traffic Trend, Most Used Operative system etc.

Authors and Subscribers can see all these, though they cannot click through to further information where there is that option.

I have, just now, tried unchecking the Display Options in the WP Statistics Admin Interface. This improves the situation, but it still doesn’t remove the widgets. It just blocks out what can be seen in the widget boxes. Instead of the graphs, there’s a box with a grey gradiant pulsing across it.

A lot of my members are even less tech savvy than I am. (And I’m not tech savvy!) They get confused when the dashboard become cluttered. Is there a way I can completely remove these widget boxes?

    Many thanks, John
