• OK, I’ve tried the plugin and it works fine. Gives some decent control over what is getting renamed and what isn’t.

    My question is:
The feature I actually need is Auto rename to Post Title (Pro).
As far as I understood, when I choose this option, the media filename will be renamed to the title of the post it was attached to, but what happens with the Media Title?
    e.g:
If I uploaded an image 152162612.jpg to my media library, wordpress would set Media Title to ‘152162612’. When I set this image as featured image for my post ‘ My Post ‘ this plugin will auto change the file name to my-post.jpg but what will happen with the Media Title?
Will it still be ‘152162612’ or it will also be renamed to My-Post.

The way it looks to me now, it would only change the filename to the name of the post but the Media Title would stay unchanged. Or am I wrong?

    Long story short:
It would be great if it would rename the filename to the post title and also rename the Media Title too, and if the option is ‘checked’ it would also synchronize Alt Text with the post title.
Is this the way the plugin is behaving or it just renames the file?

    Hi!

    It will still be 152162612.

Indeed, I could add an option for that (for the title). The Alt Tag text is a bit trickier though, I am not sure I should do anything about it. Would you mind starting a new thread with that idea? (when renaming based on a post name, use that new filename also as a title). I would like to see if more people are interested, to push me towards doing it ??

    Hello,
i saw this thread to late. I am looking for exact this function.

A plugin that will rename filename, media title and alt attribute by post title.

Now i bought the pro version and it is useless, because it just rename the filename by post title.

That is easy for me to add. However, the HTML will not be updated. Is that ok?

    Hi Jordy,

I’m also very interested in this option. Currently I’m looking for another plugin to achieve this but can’t find one except for “Format Media Titles”. This plugin creates a “media title” by stripping the hyphens in the image name and capitalizing but it’s a bit stupid because the “post title” is already what I want as title and alt text. (I would also need the pro version of that plugin because the bulk renaming option is not free. Since I”m already a pro user of “Media File Renamer”, it would make enhancing image SEO quite expensive.)

Is this something you consider to add shortly? It would make “Media File Renamer” definitly even more valuable than it already is. Or can you point me to an intermediate free alternative?

thanks a lot for a great plugin and greetings,
    Els

@someguy9, @els-guns, @outerlow, I’d like to develop this feature for you guys. Just to make sure, can you tell me in 1-2 sentences exactly what you expect this option to do exactly? I want to make sure you are thinking the same thing, then we’ll discuss how to name those options and what they do ??

I expect an option to save post titles to the media title/alt tag when a post is saved

    Hi Jordy!

I would like an option, when I auto-rename a media file to the attached post title, then the media title and the media alt text can also be updated to the attached post title.

And when I have updated the post title, all of these (the media file name, the media title and the media alt text) can also bee updated automatically.

    Thank you!

This is already implemented, you will see this appearing in the next commit on the WordPress repository ??

And when I have updated the post title, all of these (the media file name, the media title and the media alt text) can also bee updated automatically.

At a later point of time, for now I prefer not to do it automatically as it can be a big process on some big installs, and a bit dangerous. But I think I will add it if I don’t see any issue in the next weeks.
