Is the PHP behind themes disappearing?

    I am all for the new Calypso REST API and how things are moving forward for WP, but I have a huge question for the community: Is the PHP template tagging system going to be compromised sometime soon?

    I rely heavily on my fluency with the existing template tags and whipping up a theme that serves a client, as we use WP as a CMS and really don’t want to switch because it is very reliable and has a ton of supportive people in the community.

    Just curious if anyone watching the forums and contributing here could give me any peace of mind or a warning about the whole PHP/MySQL setup that we are all so comfortable with… is it going away?
