The last two times, my duplicate post and the original have not merged into one post. It is creating a second post. So when I create a duplicate, it adds a 2 at the end of the post to be edited but when I click to publish like I always do it is not taking the 2 off the end of the slug and merging it is just making a new post. Is there a setting that needs adjusted? Thanks

    Hi @bhall99

Yoast Duplicate post plugin is not merging the updated version with the old version. I am sorry for the situation you are facing.

When you say you are creating a duplicate, can you kindly confirm which feature you are using exactly? Are you using New draft, duplicate or Rewrite & Republish? Kindly confirm.

I am using the Rewrite & Republish. I just tried it again and it created two new post instead of the one for me to rewrite. So now I have 3 two to rewrite and the original published one. I and going to just take the original and take it back to draft and then change the publish date before I publish it.

I had to redo all my recipes over the last 2 years, and the Rewrite and Republish plugin has been great. Of course, I am down to the last 20, and this plugin goes crazy on me. I deactivated the last plugin that I installed, which was Microsoft Clarity, but it is still not working. The only thing that changed from the time it was working and stopped working was the PHP was updated to v.8.2. That was done on May 22 and on the 23 I tried to use the Rewrite and Republish, and it is not working any more.

    Hi @bhall99

I am sorry to learn that you had to go through all the posts. If I understand correctly, you are facing the “rewrite & republish” is not merging after you rewrite and republish a post.

To replicate the scenario, I used the “rewrite & republish” feature and noticed the new post gets merged into old one when I republish. Can you kindly confirm if you have followed the steps below while using the “rewrite & republish” feature?

    1. Create a post named Post A, add some content into Post A and publish it.
    2. From the WordPress dashboard > post list view, I hover on the Post A and then clicked on “rewrite & republish”.
    3. I was redirected to the post edit screen. I made changes to the content, and then I clicked on the republish button at the top right corner.
    4. The post is merged into the old one and you see a green notice bar like this.

Is it possible that you are clicking on “save draft” instead of “republish” on step 3?
