• Hi guys,

I want two different wordpress installations use the same users, I have Site_A with all the users, Site_B will be capable of letting the users form Site_A to post on the new site. Site_A is the “root” domain and Site_B a subdomain.

I’m not sure if the solution is using MultiSite option, I read a lot of pro and cons of using it, but is not clear for me in my case if I have to use it.

    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advanced.

  • Multi site will allow the users to have access to each site and the second site can be set up as a sub domain so this combination is ideal for a multi site network.

The main thing is to keep it simple.

I also have this question. Hope it’s not rude to jump in, but figure it might be helpful for folks to consolidate similar questions. Don’t mean to hijack, but think this relevant.

When managing multiple sites on the same domain (root and subs), is it better to do separate installs of WP, or go Multisite?

I have a root domain (www.mydomain.com) with an old flash site hosted there. I also have a subdomain (blog.mydomain.com), where I’ve been experimenting using WP building a blog. Now that I’m getting more comfortable with WP (enough to really get myself in trouble!), I’m thinking of switching the root domain’s design over to WP. Is Multisite the answer for me?

From what I understand, I could install WP on my root domain and build the root domain’s site independently (giving me 2 installs of WP, one for the root and another for the subdomain), or I could do a Multisite install on my root and handle however many sites (based on the root name) I have in one place with one install. Is this correct? Pros? Cons?

As you say, DennisBarkerCV, I just want “to keep things simple.” In this particular case, with the two sites I’m thinking of, each would have a different theme/design.

If I were to go with a multisite, would it be difficult to migrate my blog.mydomain.com over to the root (mydomain.com) multisite install?

As a side question, while keeping my root domain’s current site running, would it be prudent to build the replacement WP site in another subdomain? Or is there a better way to build a site before replacing it, allowing the transition to be more seamless?

    Appreciate the insight!

Thanks Dennis, actually what I did was this:

I let Site_B capable of connecting to the database on Site_A leting it user the tables and add a new prefix on the table for the posts so this way both sites communicate to the same database and posts on different domains/subdomains.

Hope this is not confusing, it was at the begining for me

@ballou: If you planning to posts two different posts of information on each site probably you can use my solution but if you want your main site with a blog so only install wordpress on the root site and migrate your blog there, I use the “Duplicator” plugin to move my sites on worpdress.

    Hi!

I’m now designing a City Guide Directory for a city in Belgium (housing, shopping, services).

When this idea works, I plan to create other subdomains for all the cities in Flanders. These sites will be identical, except for the content.

Now I started with a single WP installation.
But I am hesitating: would you recommend to start already with MultiSite instead?

Or can I (if the idea works) switch easily to MultiSite when creating multiple cities? https://www.city1.domain.com & https://www.city2.domain.com..?

Thanks a lot you for your advice!
