Is multisite right for me?

  • I would like to use a different URL for my blog since I’m using WP to generate my personal portfolio site. So instead of example.com/blog I would like awesomeness.com.

    What’s the correct way to do this? Multisite looked a bit too complex for such a simple move. Would I need to use some type of redirect plug-in? Again, I don’t want users to see example.com/blog and I would like to keep everything under the same WP login.

    I’m kind of new to this stuff so any help is appreciated.

    So instead of example.com/blog I would like awesomeness.com.

    If you don’t want Multisite, the best way would be as an add-on domain, and a separate WP install.

    If you DO want multisite, you would make example.com/awesomeness as a subsite, and then use a mapping plugin there.

    There are pros and cons, and you can google ’em if you want. Without knowing anything else about your setup and desires, all I can say is ‘You can do it with or without Multisite.’

    It’s not that I don’t want multisite, I’m just trying to figure out the most efficient and optimized way to do this.

    I thought about making another WP site, but that struck me as the more expensive way.

    All I really want it for is so that my portfolio site and blog are separate, but also somewhat similar so if a prospective client stops by my portfolio site they can see that, yes I do have a blog where I talk about trendy things in my profession, but also if someone where to google videography/multimedia blogs they could find my blog but not necessarily my portfolio site. The distinction and separation is important to me.

    One WordPress multisite network with 6 sites is pretty much the same as 6 separate installs, when it comes to the CPU.

    I would use Multisite personally.

    adelos-domain.com – personal site
    adelos- portfolio.com – Porfolio ??
