• Hi all,

I am looking for a simple yet smart blog with a sidebar to the right and not too much fuss. I first tried and liked a solostream theme, but now that i know more what my blog should look like, i find this theme to be too complex. Meaning that it has too many options for me. All i want is to change a header, add some widgets and style the css. All those extra’s somehow seem to clutter it for me and make it more difficult to customise things with my limited html and css knowledge.

I was looking for a responsive theme that is really basic and smart. I think i found this in the new twenty thirteen theme. What do you think? Is this really basic and relatively easy to customise? And does it work well with a sidebar to the right? I saw Some easylooking examples on the themepage that made me enthousiastic! But before i start fiddling, i would love to hear your opinion and pro’s and cons.

Thank you for your two cents ??

  • Do not edit the Twenty Thirteen theme. It is the current default WordPress theme and having access to an original, unedited, copy of the theme is vital in many situations. First create a child theme for your changes. Or install a custom CSS plugin.

The same goes for pretty much any theme downloaded from wordpess.org

    Hi Esmi,

Thank you for your advice. I’ll go for a child because I also want to edit a little bit more than just the css to get it right.

Do you have experience with the theme and think it is a good base to start from?

Yes – I know it pretty well and it is a good, solid, responsive theme. Plus you get the benefit of it being supported for the foreseeable future by the WordPress development community. If you want to build a responsive child theme, I don’t think there’s a better all-round theme out there.

Thank you for your reply. It only strengthens my good feelings, so I think I will give it a go ??
