• I am planning to use a plugin that uses FTP for creating backups. As long as I know, FTP transmits non-encrypted data so is it safe to use this protocol to create backups?
If not, what are the security risks I have?

  • what are you backing up?

Typically FTP will only backup the contents of /public_html
For your WordPress site then you would only need to backup /wp-content
It will not by default though backup the database and that’s where your posts, pages and comments are.

If you are concerned about security I would suggest getting an account with Dropbox or similar and then using a plugin which will create the complete backup you need and then send it to that service.

    Hi Mark,

Thanks for your answer. I want to backup the static files mainly on another server. I have already figured out a way to backup files through FTP but was just worried if that is a secured way to do it.
