    Hi,

WooCommerce main version updates mostly need database updates too, which can be managed on the admin area. What if the WooCommerce plugin was not updated for a while, so several main versions are out, which all need the database update. Is it safe to just update WooCommerce to the latest version or do you recommend to update it one-by-one with the main version steps to have all the necessary database updates?

    Example:

    • Current site has the WooCommerce 9.1.4 version.
    • Current latest version of WooCommerce is 9.3.3 version.

    Question:

    • May I update to the latest 9.3.3 version with one click and do the database update?
    • Or do I need to update to the 9.2.3 version first, do the database update and then update to 9.3.3 version and do the database update again?

What is your recommendation, what is the best practice?

    Hi @surbma,

    Thank you for reaching out.

It’s generally safe to update WooCommerce to the latest version directly, even if you are several versions behind. The new version should contain all the necessary database updates from the missed versions.

However, it’s highly recommended to backup your site before updating, just in case something goes wrong. It’s also a good idea to test the update on a staging site first, if possible.

That said, if you feel more comfortable updating one step at a time, you can certainly do so. This might be a safer option if you’re concerned about potential compatibility issues with other plugins or your theme.

Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.
