    Good Afternoon,

Have been using this plugin for over 10 years, and haven’t yet updated from version 3.7.1, as I’ve noticed that from version 4 the plugin has been completely re-built, and after reading through the posts on the support forum, it appears that version 4 has caused quite a few issues for a lot of people.

My question is, if we update to the latest version of this plugin, are we going to loose any of our current saved settings? We are using the free version of the plugin.

Also, will we loose any of the free features in the latest version? E.G: Have you removed any of the older free stuff from the free version of this plugin, and moved it into the premium paid version?

Just a bit sceptical about updating this plugin, as it has worked well for many years, and we don’t want our site to break if we update to the latest version?

    Kind Regards,

    Andrew

    Hey @andrew1977,

It should be safe to update, but we always recommend making a backup before you do any major updates. I’d say this qualifies as that.

We experienced some issues after releasing v4.0.0, but most of those were obscure issues that only affected a limited number of websites.

All your existing settings will be automatically migrated over to the new version, and the same goes for your SEO data for posts/terms.

We also did not remove any functionality from the plugin.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

    Hi Arnaud,

Many thanks for such a quick reply.

We have just updated the plugin on a test environment and have noticed the following warnings:

    Deprecated Filters Detected
Warning: AIOSEO has detected the use of filters that have been deprecated on your site. These filters may be in use by another plugin or your theme. If that is the case, these filters most likely will not work with this plugin. Please make sure you have updated all your plugins. If you have manually added these filters, please check out our documentation for the updated filters to use.
    aioseop_canonical_url
    aioseop_description
    aioseop_keywords

    Static sitemap files detected
AIOSEO has detected static sitemap files in the root folder of your WordPress installation. As long as these files are present, AIOSEO is not able to dynamically generate your sitemap.

    Physical Robots.txt File Detected
AIOSEO has detected a physical robots.txt file in the root folder of your WordPress installation. We recommend removing this file as it could cause conflicts with WordPress’ dynamically generated one. AIOSEO can import this file and delete it, or you can simply delete it.

With the Deprecated Filters Detected for canonical urls, what’s been put in place to replace the canonical urls, as the canonical urls stopped any duplicate content warnings/issues, with urls, which had more than one way of accessing them, e.g: product/parent-category/child-category or product/child-category, as google would only index the one url, and without canonicals I can see two versions of a url being indexed, which would have a negative effect on SEO.

With regards to the other two warnings, I’m guessing we can safely ignore these warnings, as we currently use the Google XML sitemaps plugin for our website sitemap.

    Kind Regards,

    Andrew
