• For the purposes of conversion, “is it safe” (Marathon Man) to copy and paste page content from a PC based Expression Web 1 static site to WordPress?

My concern is transferring junk code. I want to do this so that I can transfer the text format and links. I’m converting 3 of my sites which each have about 100 pages.

I tested it by coping and pasting one paragraph with text and 2 different links from Expression Web, NotePad, and TextPad to three WordPress test pages. When I look at the source code I cannot see any difference except Expression Web carried this code over with one of the affiliate links: alt=”” width=”1″ height=”1″ border=”0″ />

If it’s not safe, is there a clean way to do it whereby I can transfer the text format and links?

Your help will be much appreciated.

  • Copy and pasting all those pages is a lot of work and you are bound to have some errors. I would recommend using an import plugin like html import.

Hey Chris: Thank you the idea, but I already tried the HTML Import plugin in numerous tests and I could not get it to work right. Are there any common HTML Import settings issues that cause problems that you know about?

Not that I know of. I’ve used it before but the html files I imported were all similar in structure so it was easy to pull in the content from specific div tags. The plugin author is very helpful and has given some good presentations on how to do mass html imports. I’ll add the tag here and she might be able to offer better advice.

Hey Chris: I don’t recall seeing that user guide. I’ll read through it. Thank you!
