• It seems like i only get spam comments, and I’m wondering what the specific criteria are for it to be considered spam by Akismet? If I authorize a spam comment, will it affect my blog’s Page Rank?
If a comment turns out to be spam but the site’s PR is 3 or higher, and my blog is a PR 2, won’t that sort of lift me up then if I authorize the comment?

    Thankful for replies!

  • If they link to malware/virus/phishing sites then it’s likely your site could be punished/de-indexed.

You wont get any page rank boost by linking to other sites, the links have to be to your site.

Ok gotcha. But in my mind, if I authorize a spam comment now and then (the ones that at least are on topic and don’t look like obvious spam) it will make my blog look more alive and maybe more people (not spammers) will be interested in commenting when they see that others have commented?

    How do I know if a spammer’s website is a malware/virus/phishing site?

Not really. If the comment actually has something to do with your post, and the same comment has not been left on oh say, a 100,000 other blogs, then people may want to get involved in the conversation.

Who want’s to get into a conversation where a spam bot left “Great article! I found your information very interesting. Oh and BTW, please click on my SELL-JUNK-STUFF-HERE link.”

Spam comments are like posts that have been lifted from someone else’s blog. Unique (and pertinent) content will get you more visitors. Approving spam comments wont.

You can’t tell. But if it’s spam then leave it in the trash bin. It won’t help your blog’s traffic and if you approve it then you are providing free advertising to someone else’s web site.

Or edit there spam comment and make it a part of your blog, create something relevant and use it to your advantage, remove any link(s) that may be in the comment.

Though you are cheating it helps with a new blog and keeps your interest in the blog if your just starting out. You only getting 100 visits a month it’s more likely your getting around 10% or less real visitors reading it.

It’s always good to lie to yourself for a while until you get someone interested in your blog. ??
