    Hi there

With Jetpack enabled, I have the option of a proper mobile theme, not offered by the free theme “Spacious”, which otherwise shows a virtually compressed normal layout with sidebar in mobile format. This also improves performance in Pagespeed & co.

The only problem is, it is white and the instructions from the Jetpack site with that appended => /2013/06/27/customize-mobile-theme/ … are not helpful.

On the Settings => Writing page, where Mobile theme is mentioned, these are the only settings I see:

    Mobile Theme

Give your site a fast-loading, streamlined look for mobile devices. Visitors will still see your regular theme on other screen sizes.

    1. Enable the Jetpack Mobile theme: enabled
    2. Show excerpts instead of full posts on front page and archive pages:
      enabled
    3. Show featured images: enabled
    4. Show an ad for the WordPress mobile apps in the footer of the mobile theme: deactivated
    5. Enhance CSS customization panel: DEACTIVATED BECAUSE => this somehow leads to overriding the site-wide font size settings, giving the site a very small font, which does not respond to custom CSS settings in Spacious theme. Font returns to normal size only when this setting is disabled. I discovered this only after a long search disabling different plugins and then settings in jetpack, when I noticed it was behind this.

So my question is in the CURRENT version of Jetpack, where exactly can one change mobile theme color, etc as the article above seems to imply but those illustrations seem to be from an old version?

Furthermore, even with “Enhance CSS customization panel” enabled, under Appearance => Edit CSS does not lead to any mobile theme settings, but to either => /wp-admin/themes.php?page=editcss-customizer-redirect =>

“Sorry, you are not allowed to access this page.” or some other error I do not remember. The Customm CSS box for Spacious does not mention the Jetpack mobile theme.

So with this Spacious theme, how exactly can one change mobile theme settings and if “Enhance CSS customization panel” is required: how can disrupting site-wide font settings be avoided and why can I not access the CSS or other mobile theme related settings page? I would like to have the mobile theme look like the normal theme and not white.

    Thank you in advance

    Update:
The error ““Sorry, you are not allowed to access this page.” ” mentioned above when trying to access Appearance => Edit CSS, was because I had disabled “Enhance CSS customization panel”.
When I however enable it, the same link ends at =>

    Forbidden
You do not have permission to access this document.

    Why?

    Hi there,

There are some things you can do using Additional CSS to customize the mobile theme via the Customizer, so the article you referenced is still applicable (Note that we can’t help you configure or implement those customizations):

    https://www.habariportal.com/wp-admin/customize.php?

However, Themegrill provides Spacious as a responsive theme, and for those purposes, I would almost always recommend using the responsive theme over the Jetpack mobile theme. Responsive themes offer an easy way to set up a website that looks great on any device – that includes your desktop computer, laptop, tablet, or mobile device without needing to worry about making customizations on a specific mobile theme. In addition to loading properly on any device, the best responsive themes also perform as needed and are easy to navigate on any screen size. Responsive themes also remove the need to have a specific mobile-only theme – the theme will respond to the device viewing the content and resize the content accordingly.

Is the compressed layout the reason for not using the responsive theme? Have you reached out to Themegrill to see if there are some CSS customizations to assist with that?
