Is it possible to "remove" the word "category" form the url?

Hello,
I deleted my old website and replaced it with WP Hueman. I decided to use the blog instead of static pages, but I noticed that the urls come out like this:

https://canadaimmigrants.com/category/cost-of-living/

(with the /category in the middle)

Is there any way to remove it? Or, if needed, would that affect the SEO?
