I have installed WP on the server and it’s all going ok. Now I wonder if I need all those files? It seems to take up a lot of disc space.

I notice for instance that the two preinstalled themes have their own directories. If I only use one them, do I need both folders? If I can delete one, are there other files that are not required?

    Thanks

  • You could delete the wp-content/themes/classic folder. I would not delete the wp-content/themes/default folder, even if you don’t use that theme (WordPress uses that as a fall-back in certain situations).

Otherwise WordPress doesn’t really take up that much room unless you start uploading pictures, videos, and music.

you can and should (imo), delete wp-admin/import/

it serves only one purpose and the files can be uploaded later should you need them.

What are we talking about here, 4MB at most?!

The core install is pretty lean and, like MichaelH said, it’s the pictures, videos, and such that take up all the room.

    This is a non-problem.

sure, but thats not what the OP asked, is it?

    Thank you for chipping in.

I’m quite new to WP and thought that along side my static pages, it looked huge! I am happy to leave it as it is.

    Thanks again
