Hello, I maintain a site based on Joomla. Is it possible to install a WordPress blog there without affecting the existing Joomla installation? I would like to keep the Joomla CMS for the main site, as it already contains a lot of content and customizations. At the same time, I would like to use the ease of use and flexibility of WordPress for the blog.

Is there a way to integrate the two platforms so that they run in parallel, perhaps in a subdirectory or on a subdomain? How could I make the user experience seamless so that visitors don’t realize they are switching between two different systems? Also, are there any tools or plugins that make it easier to synchronize user data or themes between Joomla and WordPress?

I welcome any advice or suggestions for implementation!

  • Hello Mario,

Running WordPress alongside Joomla is a feasible solution, and with the right setup, you can keep Joomla as your main CMS while using WordPress for its blogging capabilities. Here’s my suggestions:

Sub directory Approach: You can install WordPress in a sub directory of your Joomla site, for example, yourjoomlasite.com/blog/. This allows you to keep Joomla as the primary CMS for the site while having WordPress handle the blog in the sub directory.

Subdomain Approach: Alternatively, you could install WordPress on a subdomain like blog.yourjoomlasite.com. This method keeps the two CMS platforms even more separate, but with proper design integration, users won’t notice the difference.

If you want to sync data between Joomla and WordPress, there are a few plugins/extensions for help. If plugins don’t meet your needs, you might need a custom solution. A developer could help create a synchronization system where data are shared between Joomla and WordPress.

    I hope this helps.

Yes, it is possible to add a WordPress blog to a Joomla website by using extensions like WordPress for Joomla or by setting up WordPress in a subdirectory and linking it from the Joomla menu. This way, you can run both platforms together smoothly.

Thank you very much. The subdirectory solution seems to be the easiest to me. I will try to implement it that way!
