Is .htaccess a requirement?

    Hi,

    I am a blog newbie, and heard a lot of great things about this software, but my host is windows, so there is no .htaccess file. Everything else is cool.
    Can I still use it? If not, is there a good alternative for windows?

  • No, it’s not a requirement. For the longest time, I couldn’t use it because my previous web host didn’t support it.

    So, no. WordPress works fine either way, urls just look cleaner/nice with .htaccess.
