I sell an online course (digital product) so I have no need to collect the customers billing address but I was wondering whether this would cause any issues with certain payment methods (credit cards) being declined because the billing address isn’t there?

    Thanks ??

Not collecting a billing address can cause issues with payment methods, especially credit card transactions. It’s worth testing how removing the billing address affects your payment success rate.

    Hi @ruhulamin ,
Thank you ?? I have had it setup this way for a while now (not collecting billing address information). I’m just not sure whether any orders that failed due to this would come up as ‘failed orders’ that I can see in the orders dashboard or whether they would just come up as abandoned carts or just not come through at all. Do you know if there is a way to tell whether payments are failing because the billing address is missing?

    Thanks

Hi, I’m looking for the way to remove billing address fields too. I’m using custom a payment Gateway and I’m sure this won’t cause any problems. I need only the county field.

How can I remove other billing fields from the checkout block?

@profil-tv I use a plugin for that called: “Checkout Field Editor for WooCommerce (Pro)” and it works really well. I just wondered whether it would cause issues with some payments to remove the billing address.

    Hi @michaelronin,

The requirement of a billing address largely depends on the payment gateway you are using. Some payment gateways may require a billing address as part of their fraud prevention measures. However, there are other payment gateways that do not require this information.

If you’re selling digital products like an online course, you can opt for payment gateways that do not require a billing address. It’s best to check with your chosen payment gateway provider to understand their specific requirements.

As for you @profil-tv, I recommend you create a new thread to align with?forum best practices. We’ll be able to assist you further there.

@ckadenge Thank you for your reply ?? So, the payment gateway I am using for credit cards is Stripe Express. I did reach out to them but they said to contact WooCommerce, when I asked them; they advised me to ask on here.

I understand the payment gateway has some control here but wouldn’t it also depend on the customers card issuer whether they approve or decline transactions based on the billing address not being there?

    Thanks.

    Hello michaelronin,

    Thank you for your reply.

For credit card payment gateways such as Stripe, the billing address fields are typically recommended. If you hide or modify these fields, you may encounter payment failures or have transactions flagged as potentially fraudulent by the processor.

To ensure smooth transactions, it’s best to keep the billing address fields active and allow customers to enter their billing details. This will help minimize issues with payment declines and ensure a seamless checkout experience.

If you have any further questions about configuring these settings, feel free to ask!

    Best regards.
