I’ve had a “to-do” on my list for an eternity to download WP-Cache or something similar, because it seemed like a good idea. But I noticed that the WP-Cache downloads dropped off dramatically in April, which makes me think that perhaps WP 2.5 or 2.6 do the job for me….

I don’t get a ton of traffic (4,700 visits/month roughly) but my site can be pretty graphic-intensive, since it’s primarily a webcomic.

So a) is a caching plugin necessary on this version of WordPress considering my pathetic traffic? and b) if so, which one?

    Thx in advance!

WP-Cache is not actively developed, while WP Super Cache is. Donncha is very good at covering problems with his plug-in on these forums.

Is caching necessary? If it takes your server a long time to generate the dynamic pages, then you might want to use a caching plug-in. That way, the page will be served as just straight HTML from the cache directory until it expires.

If you are satisfied with the response time of your pages, then no, it is not necessary for you.

Caching is extremely necessary once your site grows bigger and better ??
For example, yesterday, I had to set my site to LOCKDOWN to be able to accommodate the traffic spike. You don’t want to have any of your visitors to see the Page Loading Error? Do you?

Oh, and yes, the feature was part of WORDPRESS SUPER CACHE, you should use that one.

Thanks to both of you! I downloaded the plugin. I don’t expect to ever get the kind of attention necessary to need it, but better to have something I might need than need it and not have it. Glad you were here to clear up the mystery for me ??
