• I have just done a new install ( completely fresh ) of WordPress as I changed the folder that it resides. Now I come up with a new issue I have never had before and nothing else has changed except the new folder name.

Everytime I go to the dashboard even while logged in I have to re-login on the admin page. Any ideas out there??

Just thought I would add a note to this. Even if I am on the admin page and bring up a new page going to it, I still have to login again

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

LOL…this is exactly as it was in the other folder…all plugins worked there fine as well as themes, this started before adding plugins to this folder. Makes no difference which theme I use and de-activating all plugins does not change a thing. There are no inactive plugins. This is a stumper!!

It also makes no difference which browser. I try everything out in 5 browsers when building websites

    Hi Larry,

Are you getting any errors? Also, since this is a clean install – you’ve never seen this issue before, right? I would make sure you have all your javascript and cookies enabled in your web browser. If I’m not mistaken, WP uses your cookies to verify logins. So if you have it turned off in the browser, it may cause the issue.

Just a shot in the dark on this one!

No, not getting any errors. Never seen this before & I have done many wordpress sites some with heavy customizing as this one has in the header footer. Cookies are as always…on as well as javascript. There is no changes made here from last install to this save for this has no upgrading. I may rename this folder & upload a new with the same database as is there to see if somehow 1 piece of file is corrupt.

BY the way, I want to thank you guys for the help with this. I have a feeling I will be re-doing all this

    Hey Larry,

Certainly, try to re-install it to see if there is an issue with a corrupt file. You never know! I will say that’s what I love about WordPress… even manually, I can re-install a fresh copy in under five minutes! Let me know how it works out for you!

This is interesting…Made no difference reinstalling using the same database. Sooooooooooo, I gotta say its the database that is the issue, not a piece of file. Probably as esmi suggests, a plugin. Even though none are inactive, they are still in the database a few I tried out for PHPList and such. At least thats narrowed down. Not actually hard to do what I need to do, as will still have everything in the old database as for content to start with. And the 2 custom files to copy off of

    Thanks Tim & Esmi

Got it! its the sidebar login. The widget part. For whatever reason, deactivating the plugin wasn’t the answer, its the removal of the widget thats needed. You can leave the plugin activated altogether. Which makes it useless anyway. Mannnnnnnnn, I love that login widget! Now to find another one as I don’t care for the admin bar

Thanks emsi. Only reason I liked that one was it was easy to setup with a few outside links so I could get lazy & not type or use the bookmarks. I’ll just have to set up a new one or use what you just sent. Either way…I will be lazy and put a few links like the list and such in it. Funny that Sidebar Login widget worked just fine with updated 3.21 but not a clean one. Part that gets me is deactivation of the plugin didn’t matter, only that I pull the widget out

It should be relatively easy to whip up a custom login widget that makes use of wp_login_form. FWIW, the Emporium theme has one if you want to grab the code.

Yeah, I have done it before. I just get tired of doing all this code. Retired crane operator by trade. Just downloaded Emporium. This is one very nice theme! I just may need to play with this one for integration with the billing system & the html site

This is one very nice theme!

    Thank you :-))
