My web host is IPower Web. Am I able to upgrade to the latest version of WordPress on my web provider’s hosting site? I have read the five step instructions, and I am still confused. ??

I am not tech savvy at all. Would someone who also uses IPowerWeb as their hosting site explain what I should do step by step? I know it’s a lot to ask, but I am lost. I called IPowerWeb, but they said I should ask my questions here.

I have not done anything other than install and name my blog, and I am willing to delete it if it makes the upgrade more simple.

Any and all help is very much appreciate.

  • Five steps – is installation.
For upgrade this is to be read: Upgrading_WordPress

If it is an empty blog… delete all the files EXCEPT the wp-config.php and upload the latest – 2.2.1 or 2.0.10.
    Run the upgrade.php file.

    Thank you, Moshu.

I am trying this now. Do I have to worry about plug ins at all? I really don’t know what Plug ins are.

Plugins are small code additions that add features or change the basic behaviour of the WP script. If you did not install them – there is nothing to worry about.

Okay, Moshu, I did as you said. I deleted all files except wp-config.php and uploaded version 10.2.1. Now, I keep on getting a “404 not found The requested resource could not be found” message whenever I try to go to the run the upgrade file or try to log in to my admin interface.

I wonder what I am doing wrong.

Thanks for any insight and answers in advance.

    Oh, oops.

I see I got a Network Error: Connection failed
    /public_html/shoptalk/wordpress/…des/js/scriptaculous/controls.js
    Connection refused message.

Maybe that is what is wrong. I’m on dial up. Do you think it just didn’t go all of the way? I’m not sure what that error message means. Sorry, I don’t mean to be a pain. I wish I were more computer literate!

    version 10.2.1.

That must be a typo… 2.2.1 or 2.0.10 – These are the latest stable versions.

I know people who use WP on dial-up, so that shouldn’t be a (big) problem.

When exactly do you see that error? What are you trying to do when it is displayed?

Sorry, Moshu. Yes, that was a typo. I am trying to add the files again this morning after deleting the old ones, and it stopped during uploading and gave me this error message again: Network Error Connection Failed Connection Refused.

It keeps on stopping in the middle of upload. I’m going to try to upload the content inside the WordPress folder one by one. I’m using Cyberduck to upload everything and I’m on a Mac if that makes any difference.

Moshu, you are a genius! It worked. I ended up manually uploading each file inside the wordpress upgrade folder and it worked. Thank you!!!
