Hi, I have a page which shows 15 audios, each of 3 or 4 minutes each. It has been working well for years until recently, three people using an iphone have reported the same kind of issue: the page appears blank, apart from the message “A problem repeatedly occured”.

A tech person tells me it could be that iPhones, to minimize playback stutter in slow network conditions, will delay the initiation of audio until it can pre-download sufficient data.

Whether or not this is the cause, what suggestions are there to get around this please?

I’m using shortcodes with [sc_embed_player_template1 fileurl=”https://media.anorexiafamily.com/bitesize/600_570_Hospital_scared_discharge_home.mp3″%5D and each file (on a page of 15) is typically 2 MB

The page is for members but if you contact me I can send you a login.

    Many thanks

    Eva

Thank you for reaching out to us. I had a look at your shortcode below and it looks okay to me.

Did anything change in your site or server recently? For example: Did you update some plugins? Did you update your theme? Did your host make some changes to your server? Did you install a cache plugin or did you signed up to a CDN service? Did you carry out a test yourself, by login into the protected page to see if the content is displayed?

    Kind regards.

Thank you for your thoughts. Well, I’ve had the same cache and CDN system for a long time. I’m regularly updating plugins and my theme, so it’s hard to know if that’s caused it.

The issue is only happening on the iPhones of 3 customers — at least those are the only ones who have alerted me. On my Huawei and my husband’s Android it’s fine.

Sounds like you’re not aware of any particular issue with iPhones delaying audio?

Maybe you could ask your customers to clear the browser cache in their iPhones.

The above comment is different to the comment below.

Thank you for the suggestion to clear cache — I believe that did not fix the issue for those three customers using an iPhone.

In case there’s any confusion in how I’m explaining the issue: my current theory is that they see a blank page (with only the message ?“A problem repeatedly occurred”) because perhaps the iPhone, in slow network conditions, will delay the initiation of audio until it can pre-download sufficient data. Just a theory and so I wondered if you were aware of any issues around that.

    Thank you for your time.

Your theory sounds valid to me. There might also be other issues at hand as well. For example: The iOS needs and update. There are other apps that might cause an issue on this device or devices. The current iOS might have a bug, etc

However, the fact that it works with android devices suggest there is something going on with the iOS system or these particular devices. These are just some theories of mine.

Also, on another note. IOS devices (iPhone iPad) do not allow you to do autoplay. This is a functionality that Apple prevents on their devices. Nothing we can do in the plugin for this unfortunately.

    Kind regards.
