    Hello
The Shield plugin locked me out. I couldn’t understand why; it doesn’t normally lock me out.

First of all, I used the forceoff method, but I was not getting access to IP rules or anything else to unblock my main IP.

So I managed to log in again with a different IP.

However, when I call up the IP rules menu or any other menu other than the security dashboard, it looks like it is loading and I get a green flashing dot, but nothing loads. This means I appear to be unable to unblock my main IP.

Any ideas? I’m using the free version, but I’m sure I’ve always been able to unblock and whitelist my IP in this version.

    Hi,

    Sorry to hear that…

First things first… ensure the site works as expected without caching. Caching should be the last thing enabled, and the first thing turned-off when there are problems.

Always disable page caching when you’re seeing strange behaviour and test. For a bit more background on that:
    https://getshieldsecurity.com/blog/5-golden-rules-wordpress-site-optimisation/

Also, just in case… please go to Shield > Config > General > IP Source and review this option.
It will list all the available sources for IP addresses and what the currently detected IP address is for that “source”. You can look up what your IP address is here:
    https://getshieldsecurity.com/my-ip/
and use this to inform you for which source is required for your host. The ideal, and default, is REMOTE_ADDR, but many hosts aren’t configured correctly so Shield must try and detect the correct one.

Additionally, when your IP is blocked, Activity Log will document the full reasons behind this decision. So if you go into there and see the steps that led to it, you can then simply tweak the Shield settings to ensure it never happens again.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks, I have turned off the caching.

The Config was already saying Remote_addr.

I have managed to log in with another IP, to do and check these actions. It is impossible to even view my site from my main IP.

With the temporary IP I am using none of the menus are loading at all. It still says ‘loading pages’ and the green button flashing.. I’ve waited over 5 minutes on some attempts to see if this would change and it doesn’t.

I am at a loss what to do other than to delete this plug in.

    Hi,

Sorry to hear about the trouble you’ve been having with this. My suspicion is that your site is getting a PHP error which is why none of the menus etc. are loading. If there is an error then the content won’t appear.

Do you have access to view, or can you ask your webhost to provide, PHP error logs? This will probably point to what’s going on and why the pages won’t load.

Have you tried disabling other plugins on the site temporarily to see if you can get Shield to load without any conflicts?

    Thanks.
