    Hello,

    I have been experiencing a bizarre problem with my website. I was trying to get access to my blog from my phone device, and I got the message that my IP 46.118…… has been blacklisted. Yesterday everything was alright. There are some aspects of this problem:

    1. This IP has not been blacklisted via my WordPress’ plugins (I mainly use IP Cloud and there’s also WordPress security);
    2. My actual IP address assigned to my phone is totally different – 142.68….. (Nova Scotia, Canada);
    3. My actual IP has been added to the whitelist;
    4. The IP 46.118…. is indeed associated with spam from Ukraine (according to google), and I personally blacklisted some IPs from that range;
    5. Earlier this week another trusted blogger send me a message that his IP has been blacklisted by my website. The IP as per the screenshot he took showed the IP 134.249….. which is again associated with Ukraine (While he resides in the USA), and his previous IP for the last couple of years was always different: 67.248……).

    UPDATE: As per Sunday, 5 people have reported the same issue. In one case the user switched the browser, and this worked.

    6. I have no problem accessing my website from the laptop (Propaply yet);
    7. I have reinstalled my IP/spam plugin, and this didn’t work;
    8. As I said, my actual IP, if you googled it or checked on the blog, has nothing to do with the IP showing in that error message. I do believe that the same situation with the mentioned above blogger’s IP.

    UPDATE.I’ve tested my blog on Sucury, and there’s no malware found.
    UPDATE: I’ve already talked to my hosting provider and Akismet – they referring to WordPress.

    Does anyone have an idea what’s going on and how to handle this?
    Thanks,
    Ben

  • Hello, Ben, & welcome.

    Because you don’t copy the entire error message to your query, it makes it rather hard. I do understand that may be difficult to do when copying from the phone to the computer. Having thus said, an exact copy of the error would be helpful.

    Would it be possible to show us your .htaccess file or the equivalent if using Nginx? This is a hidden file, so you’ll need to enable the option to view those either in your hosting provider’s file manager or an FTP client. Let us know if you’re unsure how to do that, stating either who your hosting provider is or what ftp client you use so we can assist further.

    I’m noting some problems w/your DNS, & I also note that your site does not appear to have an SSL certificate, which is rather frowned upon now.

    Lastly, what plugins are you running?

    I think I’ve asked more than enough questions & provided absolutely no answers for now, for which I apologize, but going off half-cocked is generally not a great idea either. Hopefully the answers to my queries will allow me to go off fully cocked instead.

    Thank you for your respond Jackie @abletec.

    Indeed I was going to update as the issue seems to have been resolved.
    The problem might have been related to WordPress (Just assuming as I have no idea how the described problem could occur) – once I have upgraded WordPress to a new version, the issue disappeared. I feel silly but happy (Still, never would have thought that an old WordPress version could mess with IP things) ??

    I actually seriously doubt that was the cause, Ben. I’m wondering if the source of the problem might be the commentluv plugin, ie, it’s blacklisting some of the folks leaving comments. I really don’t know w/o seeing an exact error message. Anyway, if the problem crops up again don’t hesitate to reopen this. I’ll keep my subscription to the thread open for awhile just in case.

    1 thing you might wish to consider if you haven’t already done so is to join Google Search Console (www.google.com/webmastertools. Particularly check both the security tab & the ‘Search Traffic > Manual’ tab to see if they are noticing anything.

    Hi all,

    So the website has been running for a while all right, but today someone has reported the same issue (The same person who couldn’t access the blog two weeks ago).
    Since it seems impossible to either remove or edit the initial message, I am going to describe the issue in a nutshell here:

    1. A visitor cannot access my site, and he gets an error message on the screen saying “Your IP 134.249… … has been blacklisted!” There are two strange aspects of this error:
    a. This IP has not been blacklisted by my plugin;
    b. This is not his actual IP (Which would be 67.248……) – it represents even a different country (However, I have no idea how assigning of IPs works). Anyway, the IP from the error message is not the same as the real IP. I have checked the IP assigned to all his previous visits – it was always the same, and it has nothing to deal with that IP from error message;
    c. Two weeks ago 6 folks reported the same error message (And again their actual IPs were different from those they saw in the error message). So far this time I have heard from one person.

    2. I use IP blacklist Cloud primarily. There are also iThemes Security, Sucuri Security, commentluv, and some other plugins.

    Hope this describes the problem more clear.

    Cheers
    Ben

    It’s a duplicate question.
