• I’m not sure if I’m the right place but I went to open a thread on wordpress.com and based on some of the other responses to other people in that forum….they were told that if they have a self hosted wordpress blog then they are to seek help in this forum instead of over there so I traveled over here once again to get help.

My blog is https://www.thriftymilitarywife.com. I have changed my name servers to the ones over at Media Temple in order to get my email over there however I want to direct my traffic to wordpress because I purchased my domain at wordpress. It also private. In order to edit the Zone File at Media Temple to make sure my site is directed towards wordpress, support over at Media Temple has stated that I need the IP address associated with my blog to make those changes.

I am trying to locate that information. I do not want to complete a full domain transfer to Media Temple. Through my research. I have found that the name servers for wordpress.com are NS1.wordpress.com and NS2 wordpress.com and someone posted the IP addresses associated to these nameservers as NS1- 72.232.101.25 NS2- 69.90.211.204. Are these correct? Should I use these in order to point traffic to my wordpress blog or do I have a unique IP for my blog? At this point I’m a little frustrated and any assistance would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I’ve contacted Media Temple and was told by another representative that I actually need the CName record which I don’t believe WordPress provides so I’ve decided to change the name servers back to WordPress and just change the MX email record to point to Media Temple. I hope this works.

Well thrifty, it is a bit confusing on what you are trying to accomplish. All those DNS (A records, CName records and MX records) are related to Domain Names. It sounds like thriftymilitarywife.com (your registered domain name) is already pointing to where you want it to go – wordpress.com – right? Not sure where MediaTemple fits into the picture?

If you just want to see your CName record you can go to Who.Is put in thriftymilitarywife.com and then scroll down and click a button to see all DNS entries (it is public info).

I am trying to find the A Record IP address for my site https://www.blaug.net. I followed your advice here and looked at the who.is site and it gives lots of info but not sure which is required. Can you advise?

Look down the left side of the page: You’ll see Registar, Expiration date and then Mame Servers (3 wordpress.com name servers) under that is a link to “See blaug.net DNS Records” – click that link and you’ll see 6 A records (along with some others).

Thanks for that. I do see the 6 A records, but which one do I give to my domain registrar?

As Esmi already pointed out, you’re running a WordPress.COM blog. This is the support forum for self-hosted WordPress.ORG installations which yours is not.

You are in the wrong forum for getting support.

As said already please visit and post your questions to https://en.support.wordpress.com/ where you may get assistance.

For a difference between the two, read this.
