Invisible html for background image appearing at bottom of posts/pages

  • I’ve noticed that html is showing up at the bottom of byrdnick.com’s posts and pages. The html is not visible from the front end or from the visual editor. It is only visible from the text editor. When I delete is and update the post, it comes back.

    Here’s an example of the html that keeps showing up:

    I recently installed the following plugins and I wonder if it has to do with one of these:

    Autoptimize
    AMP
    Google Analytics Dashboard for WP (GADWP)
    WP Super Cache

    Thanks for flagging this! For now, this is expected behavior because the Browser Extension is identifying all “pinnable” images on a webpage so if the editor is rendering your image, our Extension places the save hover button on it.

    However, I’ve reported this to our engineers to take a look but unfortunately I don’t have a timeline for a fix.

    For now I recommend uninstalling the extensions and using the bookmarklet for your ‘Pins’.

    I also had the Pinterest Safari extension (which I now uninstalled). It was only on some posts (no logical conclusions there) and I could delete the text HTML.

    I’ll see if it rears its ugly head again.

    Thank you, persistent people! This issue has been driving me nuts for MONTHS! I am uninstalling the Pinterest plugin on Safari.

    In case anyone wants to still use the bookmarklet which allows you to activate the pinterest pin function manually here it is. Create a new bookmark and paste this in as the destination:

    I’m having the same issue and I would like to solve it with a custom function. (but Im a bit of a noob with wp functions)

    BUT I have an idea that I think could work…

    The pinterest content is being added when the page/past is being “updated” AND the editor is “visual”. The extra content does not get saved when the editor is “text”
    (at least for me)

    So… If there was a function that switched the editor from “visual” to “text” right before the update—then theoretically no code would be added.

    Thoughts?

    Well I’ve been having same issue with my wife’s site/editor. Sure enough she has the safari extension installed. I took a closer look and it’s doing far more then code injection.

    You might want to look at the permissions shown under that extension. And you wonder how Pinterest is making money…?? That extension will not be installed again.

    Hi, all. Kent Brewster from Pinterest here; I’m trying to come up with a way to disable extension hoverbuttons from showing on administrative pages so this sort of thing won’t happen again. Is it safe to assume that /wp-admin/ appears in the URL when editing posts?

    Yes, I think that is a safe assumption–at least, that assumption obtains on all the WordPress sites that I manage.

    Thanks, @nick_byrd. If you have a moment to test I’d love to know if you can still reproduce this with the Safari extension installed. I believe we have replicated the problem here and may have a fix; will check back later if it works.

    I believe we have a fix in place. You’ll need to restart Safari to see it working.

    ‘wp-admin’ is the path for the admin of WordPress sites. There are plugins out there to change this default URL. Here are a few:

    HC Custom WP-Admin URL: 20,000 installs

    Protect your Admin: 30,000 installs

    WPS Hide Login: 200,000+ installs

    If the Pinterest extension could also look for other tell tale indicators that may be of value. For example the <body> tag in the admin contains classes shared in most of the sites I checked:
