    Hello

    We encounter some problems when validating the VAT number when placing an order.
    The VAT number is correct, it has been registered in the database for a long time.

    At times, the VAT number is valid and sometimes it is not. We have the problem with several valid numbers. We test with Belgian numbers

    The validation of VAT numbers is performed by calling the official VIES service provided by the EU. When the validation fails occasionally, it usually means that the service returned an error, was not reachable or was busy. This kind of issue can’t be controlled or avoided by the EU VAT Assistant. The solution, in this case, is just to wait and retry later.

    Note
    By default, VAT is not deducted when the customer is in the same country as the shop. If you are based in Belgium, then entering a Belgian VAT number won’t remove the VAT. This is also explained in the FAQ I linked, above.
