• I’m a complete wordpress noob so please bare with me.

I haven’t changed anything on my website for quite some time (I’m using 3.0.1) everything was running smoothly. Suddenly when I tried to log in (which also took a long time to load), I get an invalid user error. When I try to get a new password I get the same error: Invalid username.

When I go to my website, It takes very long to load. When it’s done it only shows the mainpage. The menubar is gone and I can’t access any of the subpages.

I contacted my hosting company and they said they haven’t had any problems with other wordpress sites they host.

Could this mean my site has been hacked or could it be a wordpress error? (I strongly doubt my computer has been infected).

    What should I do now?

Hope someone can help me out.

  • Log into phpMyAdmin and go to the Users table. phpMyAdmin is a GUI to manage MySQL databases, often available within your hosting control panel. If you don’t see it, ask your host if it’s available. Browse the Users table to see if there are any usernames you don’t recognize, and whether your own admin user is still there. (Be very careful while you’re in phpMyAdmin not to delete or change anything.)

    Check out this FAQ:

Always make sure you have a username that is not “admin” and a strong password – I recommend at least 12 characters, including uppercase, lowercase & symbols. You’re also a couple of versions behind – there have been several security releases since 3.0.1 so it’s important to stay up to date.

    Good luck!
