    I appear to be getting the message ‘ERROR: Invalid username or e-mail wordpress’.

    I can get on the blog as usual. Everything else works!

    I’ve looked in one of the .php files (wp-config.php) and the username is the same there (or at least it reads ‘username_wrdp1’). I’ve tried a variety of different configurations of the username – to no avail – I always get this message: ERROR: Invalid username or e-mail.

    What should I do now? Is there a way I can save my current settings using the stuff on the server and reboot without losing all the posts/formatting?

  • The user name for the wp login should be different than for the db login.

    Log in to your hosted site and then the data base. Check the table user meta to see what your wp login name is.

    Hi kmessinger,

    I should confess I’m a total novice here! What is the database? Is it something I get at through cPanel or the files on Filezilla? (I’m hosting the site with Hostpapa, if that helps.)

    Also, on cPanel, when I go to phpMyAdmin I get this message: “#1045 Cannot log in to the MySQL server”.

    All of this is really odd because the site/server have all been fine for 6-8 months!

    Hi,
    From what you describe you have your wordpress set up for you throw cPanel so the username for the database was set up automatically the same might go with the wordpress username. In the config file you have the username for the database.
    You need to have your phpmyadmin set up correct so you would be able to connect to the wordpress databse and get your username from there, also you can try resetting your password throw the site password recovery but I don’t think this will help you. In the end… contacting the support team of your hosting company I think would be the best for now …

    Thanks both of you – I’ll get onto HostPapa and see if they have any support they can offer. The main thing is I don’t want to lose the data on the site, so I’m in no hurry to sort this out.
