• Never in all my years designing websites have I ever wasted this much time on any issue. I’ve followed every link possible and read numerous posts on this subject but I’m not getting anywhere. Answers with links to the same FAQ are useless. Will someone just PLEASE state clearly and simply what exactly is required in the “From” field.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hello @checmark,

I’m very sorry that you’re having difficulties with the configuration of Contact Form 7.

When you install CF7 a contact form is automatically generated with all the necessary fields completed for it to work. It also happens when you create a new form.

When editing a new form, you can see several tabs including the Mail tab, where you find both recipient (To) and sender (From) email fields. The configuration should look like this:

Mail tab settings withing default contact form created by Contact Form 7

If you want to personalize the sender’s address, you must use the pattern:
    Name of sender/site <[email protected]>

It’s recommended to use an email address from the same site domain in order to avoid messages being treated as SPAM. If you use another domain extension, different that the site one, CF7 will show a warning, although you can still use your form with that configuration.

    Best regards,
    Yordan.

Thank you for your quick response. I think that this is the problem with all of the attempted answers and FAQ references. No one seems to get what is meant by things like [your email]. Is this what you enter or do you use your actual email? I think it is obvious that what is needed is some clear instruction on what makes sense for the “From” field. There must be some code that will actually show the sender’s email address when they complete the form.

For me, based on what you showed me, I ended up adding Name of sender/site <[email protected]> in the “From” field, although that makes no sense to me. I can’t see how that would provide the sender’s email address.

Obviously I’m either stupid or still very confused.

Now I am getting another error that “There is a possible empty field” although there are no empty fields.

I think it’s time to look for another contact form.

    Hello @checmark,

I try to never use the word “obvious”, because what is obvious to you may not be obvious to other people. A sign of this is that you don’t seem to understand how form and mail tags work, even though you have documentation to do so. That’s why I don’t try to guess whether someone knows all the details, I just provide as much information as possible to help.

At this point, I think maybe a customizable plugin like Contact Form 7 is not for you. There may be other options in the plugin directory that are more suited to what you are used to.

By the way, I’m not the developer of the plugin, but a user like you who tries to help other users voluntarily, and the only payment I expect is respect and thanks for the time I spend helping people.

    Best regards,
    Yordan.

Thanks for your help. I’ve gone with Avada’s Contact Form which was really simple to create and implement.

    Cheers.
