Tonight, I noticed that every NextGen object said “Invalid Displayed Gallery” where the photo should appear. I upgraded to the most recent version and that didn’t solve anything. Rset options from within the plugin. Uninstalled and reinstalled. Played around with some PHP files and got galleries and singlepic photos to reappear properly. Rolled back to 2.1.54. However, albums continue to fail to show up properly. Any ideas as to what is going on here? The way my site is designed albums lead in to the galleries so effectively my site is “offline” for many intents and purposes.

Page with error for album: https://orenstransitpage.com/transit-photography/canada/

    Page with working gallery: https://orenstransitpage.com/transit-photography/canada/toronto/ttc-subway-cars/

At the same time that this happened, the “shortcodes” for any album that I tried to add became all text based and quite long, I can post an example if that would help in troubleshooting.

@orenstransitpage – We moved to a generated shortcode versus an <img> tag placeholder. In most cases, the “Invalid Displayed Gallery” message will have to do with the display template no longer being available especially if you were using a custom NextGEN Legacy template.

    Thanks!

So for those of us who were using a legacy template (because IIRC you once told me that one can’t write a PHP command to have the more up to date templates call for the gallery description above the images), what do you recommend? Is there a “behind the scenes fix” aside from going through each and every page with an album and/or gallery to update them with your new generated shortcodes? Or some other approach that I might want to consider?

    Thanks,

@orenstransitpage – did you build your own template? If you’re using a legacy template, which one are you using?

    Thanks!

I use a slightly modified version of the legacy gallery-caption template that has the gallery description appear above the thumbnails. You can see it at orenstransitpage.com/public_html/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/products/photocrati_nextgen/modules/ngglegacy/view/gallery-caption.php

@orenstransitpage – The link to your custom template is not available (actually rendering a 503 error page) but as to using custom templates in general the NextGEN Legacy versions are the easier to implement, especially is you are using different ones for different similar displays.

If you want to create a default use custom template for the Basic Thumbnails, you can copy the default template from here:

    ../wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/products/photocrati_nextgen/modules/nextgen_basic_gallery/templates/thumbnails/index.php

and paste it to this location:
    ../wp-content/ngg/modules/photocrati-nextgen_basic_gallery/templates/thumbnails/index.php

Then modify the pasted file to make the changes you want. This “new” custom template will be used in all instances of the NextGEN Basic Thumbnails display whether or not you have previously (or going forward) set a NextGEN Legacy template to be used.

    Thanks!

Hello, I have the same problem.

None of my galleries is working, it seems that the old shortcodes are not working after the upgrade.

How can I make them work again? I have many pages and I cannot surf every page and change the shortcode, it would take ages, there must be any option or way to do handle this problem as a batch

    Thank you in advance
