Initially, I had problems using an old affiliate code that we’ve had for ages because it didn’t end with -20. I found the existing thread here in this forum where you addressed that, and I can certainly say it is still a problem in the developer version of MyBookTable that I downloaded just today.

In any case, I went to Amazon and created a brand new code, but MyBookTable still claims it is invalid. It does have the -20 at the end. I suspect the problem is that the code includes dashes, like this:

    xxx-xxxx-xxxx-20

I’m guessing the validation logic you are using does not allow for dashes within the affiliate code.

Which makes me wonder: why validate the code at all? It doesn’t really do much good. Someone can still put in a code that appears to be valid but has a typo. Either way, it’s up to me, the user, to put in a code that will get me paid. The way it is now, you are raising errors on perfectly good codes.

    Hi @james-byrd,

Thanks for notifying us of this. This issue will be fixed in the next update to MyBookTable.

We added the code validation system as a courtesy to users to help notify them if they have accidentally improperly typed or copy/pasted their affiliate code into MyBookTable, as they would lose out on affiliate rewards if they did so. But it seems that Amazon do not want to stick to a consistent format for their affiliate codes so it has been more of a hassle than a benefit unfortunately. We will be changing the validation to be much more lenient in the next version.

Thanks, Tim. Overall, I really like how MyBookTable works. I’m planning to use it for a couple of multi-author book cross-promotion sites.

I’m not sure how often you check your FreshDesk tickets, but I submitted an issue about the Amazon import over there. I look forward to hearing your take on what’s going on.

    Cheers,
    James
