I am having issues when trying to share my website on WhatsApp, as the image preview doesn’t show up. I use Yoast SEO and the image preview works fine on social media, but it doesn’t appear on WhatsApp.

The plugin staff told me that maybe I could edit the theme code and introduce the OG meta tags directly. Where should I do this? Appearance/theme editor/header.php??

Would you have any idea on what the basic OG HTML code would be?

    Thank you for your time.

  • Hello @ibshans

We already have OpenGraph implemented throughout Blocksy. Have you checked the option under Customiser -> General -> Visitor Engagement? Once turned on, OpenGraph should work smoothly.

    Thanks

    Hi @cteduard

Yes, I turned that on and disabled the og metatags with Yoast SEO, but the image was still not loading on WhatsApp.

I have disabled then the Yoast SEO plugin, and now I can see images displaying both in FB and WhatsApp!

FB displays as previsualization the first image block in the subpage that I’m sharing, and WhatsApp displays the website logo. Is there any way to change the images I’d like to be displayed, or to use instead a default image for social media?

Also, I’d like to keep using the SEO plugin, do you have any idea what might be causing this compatibility issues with my theme?

    Thank you!!

    Hello @ibshans

Any SEO plugin that offers OpenGraph functionalities will override our built-in algorithm. This is something out of our control and means that Yoast is serving the OG featured image in a way WhatsApp does not like, that’s why it doesn’t get picked up by it.

I think your best bet here is to contact Yoast’s support centre, because it is clearly an issue from their end, as long as everything is working fine with the Yoast plugin disabled.

    Thanks

    Hi @cteduard

Yes,you’re right. After several trials, it definitely works when I disable the plugin. I’ll have to get in touch with their staff.

I wanted to know though, is there a way I can change the images that display, or set up a default image for social links?? Maybe accessing the code? I tried checking out functions.php but the meta tags don’t seem to be there.

Thanks a lot for your help!

    Hello @ibshans

You can easily change up the images that are displayed by changing the “Featured Image” of the page or post. If you wish to decouple the featured image from the open graph image, you will need a third party plugin, as we do not offer such functionality inside of Blocksy.

    Thanks!
