I have a client who is running WordPress 4.8 as a private intranet site.

We’re trying to activate Jetpack for them and keep seeing the following error (server name redacted):

Error Details: The Jetpack server was unable to communicate with your site https://server-name [IXR -32300: transport error: http_request_failed cURL error 6: Couldn\'t resolve host \'server-name\']

My best understanding is that this issue stems from the inability of the XML-RPC file to accept incoming connections. However, since this is an intranet site and is not publically browsable, that’s to be expected, is it not?

I’m curious whether there’s a workaround for this, or if an intranet use case is simply not supported by Jetpack?

Any guidance here would be helpful. Thanks!

  • Hi there,

Thanks for getting in touch with us. I’ll have to ask our developers whether this would work or not – even though the site is part of an internal network is the site still accessible via the internet?

A lot of Jetpack’s feature does require a connection to be made to WordPress.com as we utilize some of it’s resources for our plugin.

Can I ask what modules and features were you hoping to leverage from Jetpack? We do have a ‘development’ mode that’s made for local installs:

    https://jetpack.com/support/development-mode/

It does have limited functionality however it may be suffice depending on your needs.

    Cheers!
