    Hi there,

I run https://www.rapnews.co.uk which uses the awesome wordpress system.

I’m having trouble with my latest update, ‘The Breaknecks’, at the top of the page.

When I scroll down the page in Internet Explorer, the browser crashes.

I’ve deleted the entry and tried entering it again, but the problem persists.

Thanks for your help in advance, Tony.

  • This is an interesting issue in a geeky sort of way. Unfortunately, I don’t have the time to investigate at the moment but I can provide a little more information in addition to what the OP posted.

Firstly, I can confirm that the issue does occur. I’ve reproduced this with IE6 on Windows XP SP2. In my case the main page is fine but if I click on the “Breaknecks” post, IE crashes. No need to scroll.

Secondly, this is not a WP issue.

Thirdly, whilst the page has a few validation errors, I do not believe that is the cause. There’s none of the usual suspects and the html code doesn’t turn up anything particularly suspicious.

I do, however, suspect that the issue is to do with the CSS. As many of us are aware, there are several obscure ways to crash IE via CSS. When this particular site is viewed without CSS , the problem doesn’t occur.

I’d be interested to see what others find out.

Thanks for the info. So any ideas as to solving it?

Tony if you delete the entry, and create a different one does the crash still occur? I don’t know much about this problem but I’ve had a look at a few sites and found these entries:

    https://www.quirksmode.org/bugreports/
    https://www.quirksmode.org/bugreports/archives/2004/11/ie6_sp2_crash.html
    https://davespicks.com/crashiexp.html

I don’t if these are relevant to the problem – but perhaps a more thorough and specific search would be in order in google. IE is bad, very very bad, but too many use it so you have to get it working ??

just to update you, i’ve solved the problem. when there’s an extensive amount of formatting on the entry’s text, ie crashes.

i had grouped different lines, divided by empty lines, together in between ‘strong’ brackets. this caused the crashing.

once i went through the entry and put ‘strong’ brackets on each individual line that needs them, things were fine.

    thanks for your help.
