    Hi,
we have had a professional design company develop us a company WordPress site. This site looks great in all browsers except IE11 where we have been advised IE is no longer supported for their custom built theme and they will need to charge us extra to fix compatibility issues.

Apparently IE is used by only 1.8% of users world-wide so not generally supported.

Could I ask if this is the norm?, and I am surprised at the 1.8% of IE users when I visit so many offices on a regular basis and see that in contrast to home users and Chrome, IE is alive and well due to group policies and browser applications.

Also see that with the large players such as Amazon, Ebay and Facebook IE is fully supported, obviously for a reason.

Thanks for anyone taking the time to answer my questions.

    Kind regards.

  • It is common for consumer-oriented projects to not include support for IE because of the gap in features when comparing to the evergreen browsers. Remember that IE11 has not seen many new features since its release in 2013! In the web world 7 years is an exceptionally long time. With that said, however, IE11 is still supported and used in corporate environments so projects that are destined for use in a company setting often stipulate that IE11 be supported by the development team of a site.

If you did not require IE11 support in your negotiations when specifying the site, then the developers are likely to have not considered it when developing. They are perfectly within their right to charge extra for out-of-specification changes.

Thank you Daniel for your answer. Luckily we did stipulate the site works across all browser types.
