• Hello everyone,
atm I’m struggling with my website https://www.imanuel-thallinger.com
Since a few days I can’t access it anymore, at least not with Chrome. Instantly I get an “Internal Server Error”. With Firefox I can visit the homepage, but that’s it. All the links to the other pages generate a “Internal Server Error”. I also don’t have access to the dashboard.

    What I’ve already tried:
    – Deactivating all plugins (renaming the plugin folder)
    – Renaming the .htaccess file
    – Deleting W3 Total Cache Plugin manually (I suspected the plugin to cause the crash)
    – Increasing the PHP Memory Limit
    – contacted the server host to check the server log. They told me everything works fine

Do you have any tips for me what else I can do to check what causes this problem?

    Regards,
    Imanuel

  • Have you tried re-installing WordPress? I would also try activating a default theme.

First I want to try fixing the problem without re-installing WordPress. I’ve tried renaming the theme’s folder, but I still get the error.

I’ve also found out that Firefox is just displaying the homepage because there’s a cache folder in wp-content. If I rename it, I also get an Internal Server Error on the homepage.

Try renaming .htaccess to something else.

In my first post I mentioned that I’ve already tried renaming the file. Nothing changes.

Okay, my bad. Did you check folder permissions?

If you have followed all the steps above, then the next step would be to replace wp-admin and wp-includes folder from a fresh WordPress installation.

    .htaccess 644
    wpfolders 755

Thank you for that tipp kmross, I will try that.

Unfortunately replacing wp-admin and wp-includes didn’t help the problem. I still get Internal Server Error

Then at this point I would definitely contact the hosting provider, and tell them that it is fact NOT working fine. Outline the steps you have taken to troubleshoot the issue.

My hosting provider checked the server again and found a problem. The permissions for the root directory were set wrong. Now my homepage works, but it displays no content. Also /wp-admin still doesn’t work (internal server error).

I’m waiting for their reply to check again.
