InternalError500 / Comments break middle

1) I noticed that on comments with more than 0 comments I got an Internal Error 500. Didn’t change anything.
2) I then disabled WP-Cache which made the Internal Error 500 go away but the comment pages now “break”, they only show the post but then it stops.
3) I tried several themes, all the same, so no client html/javascript issue
4)options/reading/Gzip is OFF

I tried and researched several things. I switched back and forth between php4/php5, have the default .htaccess. Disabled most plugins.

I realize its a serverside problem.

I would really love it if someone could give me some hints/steps.
