• Hello,

I was suddenly made aware of this annoying problem, and I have no idea how to solve it, so I’m asking you computer-savvy folks here.

The problem is that when someone tries to comment on one of my posts, I get an internal server error saying “Directory “/home/tykjpelk/web/tykjpelk.net/wordpress” is writeable by group”, and I have no idea what this means, nor do I know what happened to make it appear, because commenting has been possible earlier and I haven’t made any important changes. I’ve tried to upgrade to the newest WordPress-version (2.0.3) and I’ve even deleted a lot of the files and uploaded them again, to be completely sure that there was nothing wrong with the files.

The site in question is https://tykjpelk.net.

I’d appreciate some help on this matter, seeing as it’s bugging the hell out of me that people can’t comment.

Your website may have been hacked. MAY, mind you, don’t take that as the word or anything.

Contact your web host and have them check out your web directory. Notify them of the error. See what they have to say, and if they can fix it. It’s an easy fix, they just need to set permissions on your web directory correctly, but still, you want them to take a look at it.

I sent my host an e-mail explaining the situation, and it turned out that all I had to do was CHMOD the wordpress-folder to 755. Simple, really, though I still have no idea why it used to work but then suddenly didn’t.

Yeah some time permissions get screwed up. Some times a script likes to change ownership of files/directories on you to the script instead of your account so it gets all screwed up.
