Internal server error on checkout

Since we updated to 7.1.0, our customers get an internal server error on checkout.
No Mails are sent to the customer nor us, but the transaction shows up in woo anyway. This leads to customers ordering same thing over and over again.it seems to hapen only when direct bank transfer (BACS) is selected as payment method.
Any suggestion is welcome.
