    Hey

I am migrating my website from a test domain to my own domain. I am having issues.

I have used Duplicator to download the installer.php & zip files. I have uploaded these file & folder into the public_html of my new domain. I created a database using cPanel which seems successful.

When running https://www.mysite.com/installer.php, I entered all the credentials and ‘Test Connection’ which shows up as ‘successful’. After a few minute I get the Internal Server Error 500 error. I have rang GoDaddy but they can’t seem to help me saying they have extended the timeout & file size limit.

I have tried reset the domain and doing the same thing again but with no luck,

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks
    Jas

  • Some time ago I did create a Guide to WordPress Migration using the ‘Duplicator’ plugin that you can read here:

    https://rafael-minuesa-web-development.blogspot.com.es/2013/02/a-guide-to-wordpress-migration-using.html

Please have a look and let me know if after following the steps detailed there you still keep receiving errors.

Hello, Jas, & welcome to the WordPress support forum. Firstly, it’d really be helpful if you’d provide an actual link to your site rather than a hypothetical one. That way, we can test it using developer tools to see what sorts of errors you might be encountering.

In situations like this, one always suspects that urls got left over from the migration.

1 way to determine that is to either download your database as an sql dump file or browse it via your control panel for urls like c:\htdocs, or wherever it was installed on your hard drive.

If you do have any such url’s, a script available from:
    https://interconnectit.com/products/search-and-replace-for-wordpress-databases/
can be helpful in replacing those urls. Be advised, though, that when you’re done, you need to get that folder off the server, or hackers could have a veritable field day. Use a script such as this & not a plain text editor, as doing so can corrupt the database.

When doing this sort of thing, I often find it easier to simply import the content. So what I do is to run the WordPress exporter on the home machine & export the content to an .xml file. Then I upload a fresh copy of WordPress to the new server, create the database, install it, & run the WordPress importer.

Please let us know if any of this helps, or ask questions if you need further assistance. Have a good rest of your weekend.

    Hey,

Sorry for not providing the link. Some guy at GoDaddy helped me migrate it over which was surprising as on a call previously to them, they said that was chargeable so it was nice that did guy did it in the background and moved it over for me!

Just goes to show there are some great customer services out there as well!

Thanks for both of your swift responses once again,

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Thanks, Jas, for marking the topic resolved, & I’m so glad you got help. I know we were slow in getting around to your request for help–& I apologize again for that–but if you ever need us, please don’t hesitate to return here. Have a great rest of your weekend.
