• Hi all

Last night my website crashed right after I’d changed some code, and I got the Internal Server Error message. I now can’t access the website or the dashboard.

Did some searching and folks were talking about ftp access and htaccess, but I have a very basic understanding of how this works and would need to be walked through it.

    Thanks
    Craig

  • Basic FTP is really easy. It’s just like using a two pane file manager on your local computer. FileZilla is a simple to use cross-platform FTP client and there’s a guide to its use here:

Once you’ve connected to your site, navigate to the file that you edited and clean up your mistake. Right-click and edit may work, otherwise download, edit, then re-upload.

Thanks. I’ve connected to my host (iPage) – is that FTP, as I can see a lot of file names on there? I just can’t seem to open them up and edit.

You may have to select and download to your local machine. Open them in a text editor, edit and then re-upload the same edited file.

    Thanks. Yes, I’ll try that.
