Internal Links anchor text – where is all this weird text coming from?

I am relatively new to this and have only recently realized how important a solid linking strategy is for SEO, ever since I have been trying to establish a solid internal linking strategy but have not been able to see any decent results. Digging a little deeper we found that when looking at the pings in the comment section, pretty much all the pings coming from one page have the same text between the […] signs ( I am assuming this is the anchor text?) the text seems to be random (not always relevant) keywords from that post and is the same no matter where those pings are pointing to. Now I can see that I can edit this text manually but would still like to find out by what it is generated in order to fine tune it better. Now I have a feeling there might be a plugin involved therefore I need to mention I had been using the yoast SEO plugin, then switched to all in one SEO and finally switched again to high performance SEO because all in one was causing performance issues… Please, any help regarding this issue will be highly appreciated!
