    Hi,

Today i updated woocommerce after having updated all the add-ons plugins related to woocommerce and only custom product tabs for woocommerce was not yet compatible to latest woocommerce, the others deactivated, compatible looking at changelog or confirmed by author of plugin

My woocommerce is 3.6.4. I tried to update it to 4.1

Heads up! The versions of the following plugins you’re running haven’t been tested with WooCommerce 4.0. Please update them or confirm compatibility before updating WooCommerce, or you may experience issues:

Plugin Tested up to WooCommerce version
YITH WooCommerce Ajax Product Filter 3.7
    YITH WooCommerce Ajax Search 3.7.0
    YITH WooCommerce Wishlist 3.7.0
WooCommerce Conditional Shipping and Payments unknown
    WooCommerce Remove Product Sorting unknown
    WooCommerce Sales Countdown unknown
Heads up! The versions of the following plugins you’re running haven’t been tested with the latest version of WooCommerce (4.1).

Plugin Tested up to WooCommerce version
Custom Product Tabs for WooCommerce 4.0
    WooCommerce Multilingual 4.0.1
    WooCommerce Stripe Gateway 4.0

This is the error message i got after having updated Woocommerce to 4.1.0:
    “Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.”

also after update i got request to update woocommerce database but last time i did, it was stuck and went on for hours

also the theme i am using contains outdated copies of some WooCommerce template files. should i first update the theme or woocommerce?

I am using WordPress 5.2.6, php 7.0.33 and woocommerce 3.6.4 but need to update all 3
I am a newbie. I don’t understand how to go ahead and update woocommerce without breaking the website, it is quite a jump from the current version and what is the meaning of the error message. what if i updated woocommerce via FTP?

Hi @madleine We have a guide here to help you with updating WooCommerce. It’s best to update your theme and all plugins first, and we recommend that you test this on a staging site before doing the update on your live site.

We do recommend that you update PHP to 7.2 or greater as well. For more detail of the recommended server specs for WooCommerce, please see this guide.

    **500 Error**
A 500 error is often caused by a conflict on your site. I recommend checking for fatal errors in WooCommerce > Status > Logs and also checking with your web host for access to the server error log to see if there is additional information.

    **Database Update**
If you do the update and the databased update gets stuck, you can run the database update actions from WooCommerce > Status > Scheduled Actions.

I hope that helps give you an idea of where to start.

    Hi,

    Thanks @drwpcom and @thup90

I tried again and I made it! changed a couple of things. Woocommerce database updated as well with woocommerce core (updated wp core, PHP and all the remaining plugins and theme)
not sure how long the woo database update took but it was successful
