Intermittent inability to load site and WP admin panel
-
I’m using WP 7.1 as the front-end for a site I’m building, but I’m having a serious problem. As I’m adding or editing pages, or making any alterations to my theme (Atahualpa) or general WP settings, I frequently, but randomly, experience a complete failure for the wp admin panel or site to load. For example, I may make a change to the wording on a page, save the changes, and it works fine; but the next change I make 2 minutes later results in a complete failure to respond – I just get a “waiting for https://www.<sitename>.com” message.
This never results in a timeout error – it just sits and “spins” for anywhere from 3 to 20 minutes. Sometimes it finally loads, but more often, it kicks me out to my wp-login page. While this is happening, if I try to go to my site, it does the same thing – it just sits and “spins” and doesn’t load – though if I wait long enough, it always does.
Furthermore, with just about the same frequency, just attempting to load my site will result in this failure to load – it isn’t necessarily sparked by an attempted change from my WP admin panel. But ALWAYS, when one won’t load, the other won’t either.
On a couple of occasions when this was happening, I had 2 other people attempt to load the site, and they both got in fine.
It’s NOT a server problem, or a routing problem; even while this is occurring, I can ftp into my site, upload things, etc., and I can go through my site file manager, and even make changes without any problem. It seems like an html or php “dead-end,” but it’s not consistent; I can access the site fine, make changes without a problem, and then it just randomly fails. And it happens with extreme frequency.
I don’t know anything about the WP database, PHP, or anything even remotely technical, so if anyone’s got any ideas what could be going on, or how to fix it, I would be extremely grateful.
